Love London

I'll be moving out of London in just a few short weeks, but I'm far from tired of it. Here's a quick run-down of some of my favourite establishments. I've been popping in as often as possible lately, each time not knowing if that'll be the last time for a good, long while.

It's no surprise these are all on my list, which will keep expanding, but these are my real London favourites:

606 Club
A great jazz club. Thankfully, in our last couple of weeks in the city they have both Lillian Boutte and Mishka Adams singing. Saw Barb Jungr there last night and she was stunning, as ever.
Seven Stars, The Nag's Head and The Gunmakers Arms
My three favourite pubs in London (in no particular order), mainly because they each have a staunch landlord or landlady. Roxy, Kev and Jeffrey all have strong opinions on the right way to do things, which they are not shy about sharing with the world.
Bread and Roses
Another great pub, with a good mix of workers' rights, great ales and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I'm only a little sad I only started going there recently.
Indian YMCA
Great, simple (and cheap) Indian food, but also the first place my father stayed when he came to the UK.
Taqueria
My favourite Mexican place in town (and I've tried just about all of them).
Paul Rothe and Son
A time-warp, in the best possible way. I expect we'll be stocking up on Tiptree jams from here before heading out.

I can hardly recommend them highly enough. Please try them out; I'd hate for any of them to be gone when I nip back next year…

Update at 09:07 BST, 4th August 2009.

In my wanderings in the past week I have managed to get back to two old favourites, which I have been neglecting for a while, so they didn't make the cut above:

The Old Mitre
Scotty is another staunch landlord, which – as ever – is the making of a great pub.
The pub was recently sold by Punch Taverns to Fuller's, and I am very pleased to see they are allowing Scotty to keep running it as he sees fit.
The Harp
Wonderful place. Inexplicably left off my list until now. I've no idea why, but they do sell a great range of excellent ale and cider.
